Recently, Columbia Sportswear provided over 200 underprivileged Portland area children with winter coats at the 2010 Christmas For Kids event. This event, also sponsored by Fred Meyer, UnitedHealthCare, and the ING Foundation, has annually provided essential items and toys for children and their families for over 20 years.

We’ve always thought our company was made up of the most intelligent, knowledgeable, and wise people in the world. Recently, a team of eight Columbia Sportswear employees proved us right by winning the inaugural World Quest Cup. The Cup, awarded at the first ever World Quest Knowledge Competition for Grownups, allowed “Columbia’s Warm Bodies of Knowledge” to demonstrate their global mastery of People and Places, Current Events, World Culture, History and Geography and more.

To get a glimpse of the grueling, perhaps completely crazy feat we pulled off recently, hop over to Google maps, do a search for Mt. Hood to Seaside, OR and select the walk option. That was our weekend. If you have the drive, the guts and the momentary lapse in good judgment, maybe we’ll see you on the mountain next year.

Sunshine and Smiles.

Friday, August 19th was a beautiful day in Portland, Oregon. The 250 volunteers from the Conservation Alliance member companies (KEEN, Columbia Sportswear, Icebreaker, Merrell, Horny Toad, REI and Egan & Associates) took full advantage of one of the summer’s nicest days. We spent our morning pulling ivy, rebuilding trails and demolishing a decommissioned foot-bridge in Forest and Sellwood Parks, as well as working in other local locations, working up a sweat and really earning our lunch.

Tour de Cure Roundup – Sun, Fun, Success.

Our own Lynsye M. recaps the Tour de Cure, and the great time had by all while volunteering at our aid station. Turns out this year’s event was a Tour de Cute.

“I love volunteering with Columbia for Portland’s Tour de Cure! When I was very young, my grandfather passed away from a Diabetic related illness. Volunteering for this event is my way of honoring him. This year was my 4th year participating, along with my husband. Last year, I was 2 months pregnant, and this year, we brought along our 6 month old, Oliver.
