Columbia Supports Christmas For Kids!
Recently, Columbia Sportswear provided over 200 underprivileged Portland area children with winter coats at the 2010 Christmas For Kids event. This event, also sponsored by Fred Meyer, UnitedHealthCare, and the ING Foundation, has annually provided essential items and toys for children and their families for over 20 years. We’re proud to be able to support this event, along with many others that help communities in need in our area and elsewhere.
“Christmas for kids really made me happy inside,” said Lisa Peterson, Support Services Supervisor. I would do it again in a heartbeat. Nothing in the world makes you feel better than helping out.”
The program pairs almost 400 adult volunteers with underprivileged grade school children from the greater Portland metro area for a holiday shopping trip at the Hollywood area Fred Meyer in NE Portland. Many of these kids arrive with shoes that do not fit or even a warm coat for winter. The shoppers will also assist in filling the wishes of over 365 siblings, bringing the total to over 560 children benefiting from the program. Children are nominated by either their school principal or counselor and represent over 70 schools and 12 districts.
