How do you raise $2,000,000 in 27 days? You walk.

In July 2011, our Sri Lanka Team participated in TRAIL – one of that country’s most ambitious fundraising projects to-date, and focused on raising awareness around cancer prevention.

TRAIL is a 27 day journey from the northern tip of Sri Lanka all the way to the southern tip – spanning 670 km, or 416 miles (check out the TRAIL route map). TRAIL aims to raise 2 million dollars toward building the first ever pediatric cancer ward in the Northern Province of Sri Lanka.

Participants register for a leg of the journey and raise money for the TRAIL cause from friends and family. Our Sri Lanka Columbia Team walked a 20 KM leg of Trail in style, sporting matching Columbia Community Pioneer Tees. The Columbia Team also collectively raised over $7,000 for the TRAIL cause, with help from Columbia’s Matching Program.

Nice work! We love to see our Columbia Teams giving back.

TRAIL is a project initiated by the Colours of Courage Trust, a non-profit organization founded in 2008. The Colors of Courage Trust is dedicated to helping solve the growing need of cancer treatment infrastructure in Sri Lanka. At present, there is only one cancer hospital in Maharagama that supports the needs of a population of almost 20 million. Patients often travel long distances from all over Sri Lanka to receive the treatment they need to survive.
