Let’s Have S’more!

The first printed s’mores recipe appeared in the 1927 Girl Scout handbook called, Tramping and Trailing with the Girl Scouts. Titled “Some More,” the original recipe called for 16 graham crackers, 8 bars of plain chocolate broken in two, and 16 marshmallows.

To make 8 “some more,” the recipe directed you to toast two marshmallows over the coals to a crisp gooey state and then put them inside a graham cracker and chocolate bar sandwich.

Befitting to the name, there is something about the crisp graham cracker, caramelized marshmallow, and softly melted chocolate that makes you want more than one–even if the Girl Scout handbook recommended, “one is really enough.” Whether made over an open fire (our favorite method), on top of the grill, or even in the oven, we can pretty much all agree that s’mores are a great way to cap off a day well spent outdoors.

While the classic Girl Scout recipe still reigns supreme in our book, people have since created many delicious variations. Here are some of our favorite s’mores–while the general recipe instructions remain the same, we won’t tell anyone if you put three marshmallows on your s’more instead of two.

The Hershey’s Classic

It doesn’t get much better or simpler than the Hershey’s classic. All you need is:

  • Marshmallows
  • Graham crackers
  • Hershey’s milk chocolate bars (has to be Hershey’s)

Nutella Banana S’mores

It’s hard to argue with Nutella-anything so we couldn’t resist these s’mores.

  • Nutella
  • Banana slices
  • Graham crackers
  • Marshmallows

Spread Nutella on half of a graham cracker (or both halves!), top with a few slices of banana, then add the warm, gooey marshmallow before topping with the other graham cracker half. Voila! If you want to get really decadent, substitute the graham crackers for peanut butter cookies. Thank us later.

Salty Caramel Bacon S’More

Because everything is better with bacon. And salty caramel.

  • Graham crackers
  • Marshmallows
  • Chocolate filled with salty caramel
  • Cooked bacon

The Elvis S’More

We all know Elvis was partial to the fried peanut butter and banana sandwich. We are sure he would approve of this s’more named after him.

  • Graham crackers
  • Banana slices
  • Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup
  • Marshmallows
  • Optional: cooked bacon
